Mark Hunter, CPA, Founding Partner
Mark has been a Chartered Accountant, now Chartered Professional Accountant, for almost 30 years. During those 30 years Mark has focused on advanced tax planning and consulting. Throughout his extensive career Mark has assisted Clients with key strategies such as: restructuring corporate ownership to allow for the protection of accumulated retained earnings, preparing the company for sale, bringing in new shareholders, tax efficient purchase structures, to name a few.

Mark and his wife, Patsi, are the proud parents of five great kids. He enjoys spending time outdoors and, along with Patsi, is raising and helping to train five young horses at Green Mountain Equine. Hopefully, one day, one will make Canada’s Dressage Team!! When he’s not with his children, horses or dogs Mark IS creating the most beautiful pieces from wood and epoxy.

Kate Pencheva, CPA
Kate is a 2000 graduate of D. Tsenov Academy of Economics in Bulgaria, with a Masters in Business Administration from. In 2006 Kate moved with her Family to Canada. Since then, she has worked in accounting firms in Toronto, Sudbury, and Brantford, having worked at Hunter & Hooton, and its predecessors, since 2017, obtaining her CPA designation in 2021.
At Hunter & Hooton Kate is the manager of the accounting department. Her focus is on year-end accounting, taxes, and financial statements preparation. Kate ensures compilations, review engagements and non-for-profit audits adhere to the applicable accounting standards.
As accounting manager, Kate aims to provide our clients with the best quality service possible.

Gurpreet Khurana, CA
Gurpreet obtained her Chartered Accountant designation from the Indian Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, in 2017. Since moving to Canada in 2022, Gurpreet has served clients across a spectrum of industries. She is currently working towards her CPA designation.
At Hunter and Hooton Gurpreet is the staff accountant. Involved in the preparation of financial statements, planning and execution of audits, reviews, compilations and preparation of Tax returns, both personal and corporate.
She loves spending time with her family and recharges when exploring new things.

Michelyn Sciannella, CA
Michelyn has been a Chartered Accountant since 1995. In the last 30 years, Michelyn has been in Controller positions at private, public and non-profit corporations. Michelyn has also been self-employed and provided services that included tax returns and financial statement preparation, bookkeeping, payroll and year end assistance for individuals, corporations and non-profit organizations.
Michelyn is the proud mom of two daughters. She recently moved from Ontario to New Brunswick, taking all of her rescued animals along with her. This includes horses, cows, goats, potbelly pigs, ducks, cats and, of course, a dog. Caring for animals provides a daily workout and helps to create a peaceful balance with a busy accounting career at Hunter & Hooton.

Sarah Conway,
Bookkeeping Manager | RiverBend Bookkeeping
With over two decades of experience in bookkeeping, Sarah Conway brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her role as Bookkeeping Manager at RiverBend Bookkeeping. Having started her career in bookkeeping in 2001, Sarah briefly shifted gears to work as a legal assistant, further broadening her skill set before returning to her passion for numbers.
Sarah is particularly skilled in reconciliations and excels at getting books back on track, ensuring that her clients’ financial records are always accurate and up-to-date. Her ability to dive into complex financial situations and streamline processes makes her a valuable asset to the team.

Patsi Hunter, Office Administrator
Patsi graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Psychology degree and then went on to become a Registered Nurse. Having spent almost 20 wonderful years raising five kids, she started a career as a real estate agent. When Mark asked her to help him grow his accounting practice, she could not say “no”.
Patsi continues her real estate business, part-time, while running the firm. When not in the office Patsi enjoys working with Mark and the five young horses at Green Mountain Farm & Equine Development, mountain biking, daily exercise, and hiking in the trails with the kids and two dogs. When not outside, Patsi can be found curled up with a book, dappling with oil painting or creating culinary masterpieces.
